Having been born and raised in the Philadelphia area, I am forever being asked by passengers, where to go for the best Philly cheesesteak? My response – not to Philadelphia. You have to venture out to the ‘burbs, to a place called Pudge’s. I grew up going there and nothing has changed in the more than 30 years they have been in business. It is the BEST cheesesteak you will ever have.
My go to sandwich is the cheesesteak with sauce, onions and extra cheese. Real cheese, that is, not the “whiz” you might have heard about or had at some other Philly establishments. Pudge’s uses a very high quality meat with no fat or grizzle. The cooks chop it so it’s cooked through and tender. The rolls are fresh. And the final result is all that a Philly cheesesteak should be . . . and oh, so much more! On a side note, their Italian wedding soup is also a must.
Pudge’s is located about 30 miles from the Philadelphia International Airport in the Whitpain Shopping Center, 1510 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell, PA, and they are cash only. Make it a point to get there, any way you can!
