You may not be aware, but the state of New Jersey is home to over 50 wineries, with one of my favorites, Unionville Vineyards, being located in Ringoes, NJ, very close to Lambertville, NJ and new Hope, PA.
Unionville offers tours, tastings, special events, and a very pretty setting in which to just sit and relax with a glass of your favorite. They are open daily from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm. Their generous tastings are a steal at $10.00 for 8 wines.
Unionville Vineyards has been recognized nationally and is making award winning wines. As “New Jersey wines” go, they are excellent. You won’t find any fruit wines here. My favorites this time were the 2012 Big O, the 2012 Pheasant Hill Vineyard Syrah and the Vat 21 Port. As always, too, I love their labels, some emblazoned with George Washington’s head and others with a fox.
On this particular visit, we were lucky to have the very talented Larry Tritel, a local guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, providing the perfect level of entertainment.
The entire staff at Unionville is very hospitable and knowledgeable about their wines. Jonathan Smedley was our gracious host this time, and he couldn’t have been nicer! If you are looking for an enjoyable time, learning about wine, and tasting some really GOOD wines, make a stop at Unionville Vineyards! They are located at 9 Rocktown Road.
