San Francisco is definitely one of my favorite layovers. After spending my afternoon walking around Fisherman’s Wharf, visiting with the sea lions at Pier 39, and snacking on chowder and a Baked Bear ice cream sandwich, I decided to head to North Beach to get some ideas for dinner. The dining choices in San Francisco are really overwhelming, so this city will definitely be featured again and again. I wasn’t extremely hungry, so I decided to try something different, and I’m soooo glad I did.
If you are looking for authentic, homemade Italian food, you’ve got to stop in The Italian Homemade Company at 716 Columbus Avenue in North Beach.
It’s a casual place where you order at the counter. They offer Italian pasta specialties like lasagna and ravioli available to eat in or take out, as well as interesting salads and sandwiches. They also have fresh, homemade pasta to cook at home, along with some Italian specialty items.
I had the Burrata Salad and it was amazing. Some of the freshest Burrata cheese I’ve ever had over arugula with cherry tomatoes and oil and balsamic vinegar. Everything there looked incredible. The owners and staff were also very warm and welcoming. I’ll definitely go back.
