Kumo is my comfy, come as you are, go to neighborhood happy place. And it also happens to make my favorite sushi. It’s BYO, so my husband and I grab a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, and off we go, on average, once a week. The owner and staff are very friendly and welcoming to everyone – and to regulars like us, they know our order, right down to the fact that I take mine sans wasabi and ginger. I love this place.
For me, it’s an avocado salad to start – sliced avocado, perfectly ripened, served over lettuce with a very well done carrot ginger dressing.
Next, the main event, a Sweet Potato Roll – crispy yam rolled in seaweed paper and rice – the perfect texture and taste – all the better when dipped in Kumo’s soy sauce – which is a really good soy sauce, not at all salty or detergent like, which some I’ve had are. Along with my Sweet Potato Roll I get a Dynamite Roll – crab meat and asparagus inside topped with fried banana, avocado and mango sauce. So very, very good.
For my husband, it’s the Spicy Maki Combo. Everytime. Salad, miso soup, and the sushi combo of a spicy California, spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail rolls.
It’s the delicious consistency combined with the comfortable atmosphere and friendly people that keeps us coming back to Kumo. Again and again. I’m sure you know what I mean. What’s your favorite go to neighborhood restaurant?
